DANNY ROETZER
"Therapy can be a place to understand the patterns that have shaped us, make room for the parts of ourselves we've learned to hide, and experiment with new ways of being in relationship with ourselves and others."
MEET DANNY:
Danny Roetzer, M.S.Ed. Candidate in School and Mental Health Counseling at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, approaches therapy with warmth, curiosity, humor, and respect for the complexity of each person's story. He strives to create a relationship where clients feel deeply accepted as they are, while also becoming curious about themselves, their experiences, and the relationships that have shaped them. Before beginning his clinical training, Danny spent much of his career in interpersonal violence prevention, social justice advocacy, and nonprofit leadership — work that shaped his belief that emotional wellbeing is deeply connected to our relationships, communities, and the systems we live within.
Danny believes meaningful change often comes from looking beyond the immediate problem to the experiences and patterns underneath it. He is drawn to depth-oriented therapy because it offers space not only to find relief and develop new coping skills, but also to reflect on the past and understand patterns that may once have helped but no longer serve in the same way. For Danny, therapy is a place where complexity is welcome — where clients can hold conflicting feelings at once and work toward both greater self-acceptance and meaningful change.

His clinical approach is relational, direct, and reflective, drawing primarily from psychodynamic and attachment-based perspectives, with an interest in how the ways we learned to meet our needs and protect ourselves continue to shape our lives long after they first developed. He also incorporates elements of DBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy when helpful. In the therapy room, Danny is engaged and collaborative, paying close attention to what unfolds between therapist and client in real time. He is especially interested in working with anxiety and OCD; men's mental health; trauma and violence; identity development; self-esteem and shame; life transitions; family and attachment patterns; and questions of meaning and purpose.
Outside the therapy room, Danny enjoys music and dancing, and the way they create connection and shared experience. He also loves traveling and exploring cities through their neighborhoods, food, arts, and local culture, and stays active through strength training, running, and long walks around Philadelphia.
