DOMINIK BERTHOLD

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.” — Fred Rogers

MEET DOMINIK:

Being able to narrate an individual’s life story is one of Dominik’s unique talents. He has a knack for helping his patients to find their voice, honor their past and tell their story by answering questions, making connections, and looking to the future.

Dominik worked as a permanency specialist and adoption supervisor at a Lancaster counseling agency for over 6 years. He gained invaluable experience in supporting and counseling families as they navigated the process of fostering children and finalizing adoptions. A fundamental part of his role consisted of psycho-education around trauma and attachment for families as they faced the challenges encountered in the family systems.

  • Dominik can be characterized as a therapist that is insightful, sincere, and sensitive. He has been greatly influenced by Viktor Frank’s, Man’s Search for Meaning - the author’s vivid account of his experience in a Nazi concentration camp and how he avoided falling into apathy or hopelessness. For Dominik, this book was a good reminder of the inevitable suffering that forms part of the human experience. Though it might sound tragic, Frankl brings to mind that suffering allows us to foster meaning and resilience. This is a significant message of empowerment, especially to those going through hardships.

The Narrative Therapy course taught by Dr. Jayleen Galarza at Millersville University was fully embraced by Dominik who came to realize the power behind each individual’s story. He learned how we can all free ourselves by reframing and re-authoring our painful experiences. Our struggles don’t define us, we can separate ourselves from the events and create a new life narrative.

Dominik believes there is nothing more humbling and fulfilling than to be part of someone’s journey toward healing and empowerment. This is something that urged him to help guide others in the field of social work and counseling. To him, his greatest accomplishment is finalizing adoptions with children and families.

Areas of focus in Dominik’s therapy practice include trauma, depression, anxiety, stress management, and attachment issues. Dominik is looking forward to helping you through your healing and together, and to rewrite the narrative that is your life journey.

During his spare time, Dominik enjoys playing and watching sports of all kinds. He is also an avid dog-lover and regularly visits the park with his 3-year-old yellow labrador, Nala. Dominik also loves traveling as this allows him to explore new places and cultures. He is very grateful to have visited over 27 countries!
