CFR MCT THERAPIST
JONATHAN BARNES
“Life has taught me that within vulnerability lies the capacity for profound growth and healing. My hope is to help you find strength in all that you have experienced and cultivate the bravery to be your authentic self.”
MEET JONATHAN:
Jonathan Barnes is an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Candidate at Prescott College. He is passionate about helping people strengthen the relationships that most profoundly shape their lives. Viewing challenges through a systemic lens, Jonathan works collaboratively with individuals, couples, and families to identify entrenched patterns, foster healthier communication, and build meaningful, sustainable growth that extends beyond the therapy room. He works with clients around depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, and conflict resolution, and offers multicultural and LGBTQ+ affirming care. His hope for anyone he works with is that they find strength in everything they've lived through, along with the bravery to be fully themselves.

What led Jonathan to this work was a personal question he kept returning to: how do I align my thinking with my behavior, so I can actually be the person I want to be with my partner, my children, and everyone else I interact with? That question still drives him in the room with clients. Personally, Jonathan and his partner have been in a healthy, committed relationship for over 26 years, raising two teenage children — an experience that has taught him as much about growth and communication as any professional training has.
Jonathan is curious and engaged by nature, and social justice runs through how he thinks about this work. He believes in imagining a world where everyone gets to be their full selves, warts and all, and he tries to bring a piece of that world into every session. Outside the therapy room, he loves to cook and spends a lot of time listening to podcasts.
What It Takes to Heal by Prentis Hemphill is a book that has stayed with Jonathan and shaped how he thinks about the connection between personal transformation and collective change — part of why he believes healing someone's closest relationships can ripple outward into something bigger than the therapy room itself.
