MEET MARCUS:

Marcus Lewis creates a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate space in his office.  With a trauma-focused lens, Marcus is dedicated to helping people move past difficult events in their lives.  He works with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, along with grief and life adjustments.  Marcus Lewis opened Sun Point’s flagship office in Vero Beach as the LMHC Clinical Director.

As an EMDR trauma-certified therapist, he specializes in helping clients with trauma and supervises the EMDR clinicians at Sun Point Wellness.  His personal experience with mental health through therapy, alongside his calling, inspired him to become a therapist. He wanted to help others in the same way that he was helped, seeing how beneficial therapy is for managing mental well-being and healing.

  • Marcus practiced as a Master’s Level Therapist for three years at Life Christian Counseling, serving the Fairfax County Area, and served the York and Lancaster areas as a Family-Based Therapist for three years. He also has experience providing outpatient treatment as a therapist at Wellspan in the Lancaster area.  His clients describe him as down-to-earth and grounded with an active treatment approach

Marcus completed Advanced Training for Trauma Treatment of Complex PTSD as well as an EMDR Certification through the Institute for Creative Mindfulness. This training equipped him with the tools and knowledge to support clients who have had devastating and debilitating traumatic experiences.  Yet, Marcus also works with individuals experiencing minor challenges who are looking for help with healing.   Clients rave about Marcus’ enthusiastic, supportive, and direct approach in the therapy room. He believes that every individual has the tools, ability, and strength to work through their trauma and live a meaningful life.  We are so much more than what happens to us.

Working with Marcus, you’ll find your own strengths and resiliency as he models a strengths-based client-centered approach.  When asked which literature in the field of psychology has impacted him most, Marcus mentions that ‘The Body Keeps the Score’ by Bessel van der Kolk is a great foundational resource that has influenced his approach and understanding of how trauma impacts the brain and body. He still uses this book to reference certain behaviors and somatic experiences clients have due to their trauma.

Marcus Lewis starts the therapeutic process by establishing a strong alliance with each of his clients, with his primary intervention method being EMDR. He feels that clients benefit from the 'real-time' healing experience this modality offers. Marcus works alongside the client to explore their specific needs and goals for therapy. The next step is to identify the most suitable resources that can aid the client outside of therapy sessions. Marcus offers EMDR Intensives, which are extended therapy sessions designed to allow for deeper and more focused reprocessing of traumatic memories. These longer sessions offer the opportunity to make meaningful progress in less time compared to traditional weekly therapy. Intensives can help individuals who want a more concentrated approach to healing or who have limited availability for weekly sessions. Several scheduling options are available based on each client’s needs and treatment goals. Each step of the trauma process is approached with careful planning, sensitivity, and checking in to ensure his clients are ready.

Marcus’s areas of expertise include PTSD, Complex-PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Men’s Mental Health, Adolescent Mental Health, Dissociation, Grief, and working with helping professionals, along with first responders.

Marcus enjoys working out in his downtime as it keeps him grounded and focused for the day ahead. He believes that moving his body helps him manage tough moments. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, in particular, has been a great way for him to test his endurance and learn new self-defense techniques. He gets his energy from socializing with friends and family and finds meaning in learning about new people and their interests.
