EMDR Counseling for Business Executives Who Want to Enhance Their Lives

New Applications of EMDR for Business Professionals Individuals in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

When people initially think of EMDR therapy - most people’s minds jump to trauma, yet few think of how it can help enhance your life if you’re already happy and content in life.  Laura Morse, Founder and Executive Director of Sun Point explains “If you’re wanting to get to a new level of your business or personal life, EMDR therapy could be the tool to help you.”  Morse explains that a large portion of her clients are business professionals in the Lancaster county area who simply have goals like: develop a new creative project, work to save more money, have more energy for extra hobbies.  There’s no dire need for therapy, yet EMDR can help people achieve goals that may be they need extra support to attain.

“It’s an honor to get to see my clients lay out their dream goals, and see them make steps towards them in just a handful of EMDR counseling sessions.” - Morse explains.  As an EMDR Certified Therapist providing CIT consultation to her EMDRIA trained clinicians, Morse is knowledgeable about many adaptable EMDR protocols to help personalize treatment to the needs of each client.  She describes a handful of success stories - one client writing a testimonial describing how just nine EMDR therapy sessions helped them attain almost a $20k raise in their career from being empowered to advocate for themselves.

The core schemas outlined for high functioning executives has a different ‘look’ than typical trauma therapy.  Typically, Morse has business professionals walk her through their day, and what an enhanced version of their life would look like.  What small changes would make a world of difference?  Is there a way to get their five year dream beginning to happen now?  How can they incorporate elements of their retirement into the ‘here and now’?  Who do they aspire to be like and what tweaks would need to happen in their life to get them these?  These may sound like simple questions, but few people sit down for an extended session to make these visions come to fruition.

After planning the course of goals to address, Morse helps float back to any barrier memories that may be hindering these executives from getting to their goals in the present.  These sessions may be structured into 50-minute sessions, or some people set aside an extended 90-minute intensive to spend time addressing their goal.  Once any past memories are no longer triggering anymore, Morse walks her Lancaster clients into the present to walk through their goal (ex: what it would be like to do a keynote speech at their next business annual meeting; imagining pitching their next sales pitch beside their competitor; waking up an hour earlier in order to get their cross fit workout into their schedule).

Morse describes the icing on the cake where the benefits of EMDR counseling begin to show which she describes occurs in the next steps of EMDR called “future templates”.  Future templates practice having both visualization of their counseling goals happen in the upcoming week or month.  She prompts clients to walk through these hypotheticals as though they are playing out a movie in their head until they feel it is within their reach.  The final step reinforces a positive belief about themself and allows them to feel calm within their body to attain that goal.

“I continue to remain in awe of the quick progress I see my clients make in their lives.  Witnessing the Adaptive Information Processing Model, which is the scientific basis for why EMDR works is jaw dropping.  We continuously have a waiting list for professionals to get in our door as our word of mouth referrals from this modality of counseling is high.”  In addition to serving as Certified EMDR Therapist in Lancaster, Morse describes her colleague Marcus Lewis LPC who is also EMDRIA trained who recently opened Sun Point Counseling’s Florida Office branch.  Lewis also offers virtual EMDR therapy for those residing in Pennsylvania as he remains an active therapist licensed in Pennsylvania.
