Our Lancaster Counseling Center Hires LGBTQ Community Liaison and Therapist

We’re excited to announce to the Lancaster community the hire of a LGBTQ Community Liaison and Primary Therapist at our Lancaster downtown Griest location.  We’re dedicated to providing premier clinical training to our clinicians, along with high quality evidence-backed counseling and therapy to all those in the LGBTQ community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Our Primary Therapist already provides comprehensive LGBTQ counseling at our Lancaster office, and this will continue to expand the services and provide collaboration with other agencies and resources in the Lancaster community.  “We’re always looking for ways to improve our clinical team - and this idea was the brainchild of our Executive Director of Clinical Services, Breesha Comish.  We immediately took her position outline and began recruiting to find the best therapeutic fit for this position” stated Laura Morse, Director of Lancaster’s Sun Point Wellness Center.

Morse continued to describe the opportunities and growth that will hopefully evolve from this position.  She explained that both their team of Primary Therapists, along with Pro Bono and Sliding Scale Services will have access to additional trainings, consultation, and community connections through the leadership of the Community Liaison.

We already have questions about LGBTQ Counseling and welcome conversation with our frequently asked questions section:

When will the LGBTQ counselor liaison and trainer begin working?

We will announce the hire of the Lancaster LGBTQ Liaison and therapist in early September.  All of our therapists are affirming in LGBTQ counseling issues, and we will have this liaison ensure that we are providing advanced clinical care by overseeing and training all the Primary Therapists at our Lancaster location.

What else is unique about this position?

In addition to LGBTQIA+ issues, the Lancaster Community Liaison leading this effort will also incorporate a curriculum of trauma-informed interventions with a culturally sensitive lens.  Sun Point is committed to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and continues to train and serve our community with advanced therapeutic techniques - including EMDR trauma therapy, culturally competent training seminars, and more all with an LGBTQ focus.

How is EMDR trauma therapy relevant to serving the Lancaster LGBTQIA+ community?

EMDR trauma therapy was developed in the late 1980s by Dr. Francine Shapiro to help address trauma by helping people live adaptive lives through the adaptive information processing model.  EMDRIA now has extensive research showing how it can help build resilience for all people, especially for LGBTQ individuals who may have experienced trauma.

Will I be able to afford LGBTQ counseling in therapy at Sun Point’s Lancaster office?

Yes!  We wholeheartedly believe that premier counseling services should be accessible to everyone. That’s why Shadena Natty is our Director of Sliding Scale and Pro Bono Services. She oversees a team of eight Primary Therapists who provide counseling and therapy services both virtually and at our Lancaster, Pennsylvania office

How can I learn more about the services you offer?

Reach out anytime: getstarted@sunpointwellness.com or call (717) 297-0515 to get in touch.

We continue to grow and improve the clinical services offered at our Lancaster therapy office and look forward to learning how we can join with you in our community!
